Electrical Safety Your machine is double insulated for safety and requires no earth connection. The operating voltage is 230 V AC, 50 Hz. Only use approved extension cables. Contact your service agent for details. Mounting the Cutting Guard Place the cutting guard 8 on the trimmer head 6. First locate front clip onto trimmer head and push until secure fitting (click 1). Repeat fitting for rear clip (click 2). (see figure A ) Adjustment Using Adjustable Handle (Model ART 23 GFS/GFSV) (Model ART 25 GSA/GSAV) The adjustable handle 3 can be set in various positions: (see figure B ) ➊ To change the position unfold the clamping lever 10 and turn the adjustable handle 3: I = Park position for space saving storage. II = Handle forward for horizontal trimming with optimum balance and control. English - 3 III = Handle back for one-handed trimming, unequalled trimming range, and support. IV = Handle location for vertical trimming and edging jobs. ➋ Fold the clamping lever 10 back to fix the adjustable handle 3 in the adjusted position. Adjusting Handle Height or Trimming/Edging Position (see figure C ) (Model ART 23 GFSV) (Model ART 25 GSAV) (Model ART 25 ERGOPOWER) ➊ ➋ Slide release button 9 towards trimmer head. Adjust the shaft 5 to one of six possible handle height positions. ➌ If necessary turn the shaft 5 180° to position the trimmer head for trimming/edging as shown. (see figure F ) Cutting and Edging Remove stones, loose pieces of wood and other objects from the cutting area. The cutting line continues to rotate for a few seconds after the trimmer is switched off. Allow the motor/cutting line to stop rotating before switching “on” again. Do not rapidly switch off and on. Switching On and Off Press switch 1 and hold depressed. Release switch 1 for switching off. Cutting Grass Move the trimmer left and right, keeping it well away from the body. (see figure E ) The trimmer can efficiently cut grass up to a height of 15 cm. Cut taller grass in stages. For increased access move adjustable handles 3 to position III. (see figure E2 ) (Model ART 23 GFS/GFSV) (Model ART 25 GSA/GSAV) Trimming Edges (Model ART 23 GFSV/ART 25 GSAV/ART 25 ER GOPOWER) Run the trimmer along the edge of the lawn. Do not allow the cutting line to contact paved surfaces or garden walls, since this will wear the line rapidly. Trimming Edges (see figure B ) (ART 23 GFS/ART 25 GSA) Use handle position IV for edging. Cutting Around Trees and Bushes Carefully cut around trees and bushes so that they do not come into contact with the cutting line. Plants can die if you damage the bark. For better control use guide handle 4 or adjustable handle 3. Feeding the Line The rotating line can wear or break. You will notice when the motor runs without load and no grass is cut. Model (see figure G ) ART 23 G Switch off the machine and remove plug from the mains. The line must be fed manually: Hold the spool plate 14 in position, lift the line up and pull it out approx. 9 cm counter-clockwise. Clasp the line between the studs of the spool plate. The spool 16 does not need to be removed. If the line is exceeding the maximum cutting circle it will be cut by the blade 15 integrated in the cutting guard 8. Model (see figure G ) ART 23 GF/GFS/GFSV While operating the trimmer press and release the trimmer firmly against a solid base such as a pavement surface (necessary pressure approx. 3 kg). The spool will release approx. 4 cm of line per action. When the line breaks off completely feed twice to regain the full cutting circle. If the line is exceeding the maximum cutting circle it will be cut by the blade 15 integrated in the cutting guard 8. Model ART 25 GSA/GSAV/ERGOPOWER While operating the trimmer the line will be fed automatically when it breaks. If the line breaks off completely, the automatic feed may not be able to function correctly. English - 4 Maintenance Stop and remove plug from the power supply. Note: To ensure long and reliable service, carry out the following maintenance regularly. Regularly check for obvious defects such as loose fixings, and worn or damaged components. Check that covers and guards are undamaged and correctly fitted. Carry out necessary maintenance or repairs before using. If the trimmer should happen to fail despite the care taken in manufacture and testing, repair should be carried out by an authorised customer service agent for Bosch garden products. For all correspondence and spare parts orders, always include the 10-digit part number from the nameplate of the machine! Spool Maintenance Stop and remove plug from the power supply.
